Help Stop Animal Abuse

Ban using elephants as beasts of burden!

  • Physical Suffering and Injury: Elephants, despite their size, can suffer from the heavy loads they are made to carry or pull. This can lead to back injuries, foot problems, and chafing from harnesses and chains. The terrain they are often forced to navigate can exacerbate these issues.

  • Harsh Training Methods: The training process to make elephants compliant for work often involves harsh and cruel methods, including physical punishment, confinement, and the use of bull-hooks or other sharp instruments. This can cause significant pain, fear, and psychological trauma.

  • Unnatural Living Conditions: Working elephants are often kept in captivity or tethered for long periods, restricting their natural movement and social interactions. Elephants are highly social animals with complex family structures and a need to roam large distances. These unnatural conditions can lead to stress, boredom, and behavioral problems.

  • Psychological Distress: Elephants are intelligent and sentient beings. Being forced to perform repetitive tasks under duress can cause them significant psychological distress, anxiety, and depression. Observers have noted signs of learned helplessness and other stress-related behaviors in working elephants.

  • Ethical Concerns about Exploitation: It is wrong to exploit animals for human labor, especially when those animals are as intelligent and emotionally complex as elephants. And humans have a moral obligation to protect these creatures and allow them to live according to their natural behaviors.

  • Conservation Concerns: While some argue that working elephants can contribute to conservation efforts (e.g., anti-poaching patrols), the fact is that the demand for working elephants can fuel the capture of wild elephants, disrupting their populations and causing further harm.

  • Availability of Alternatives: There are alternative methods for transportation and labor that do not involve the exploitation of elephants.

In essence, the physical and psychological well-being of these magnificent creatures is compromised when they are used as beasts of burden.

Help stop battery hen farming!

Battery hen farming is a cruel practice that deprives these poor birds of any semblance of a natural life. Confined to spaces no larger than an A4 piece of paper, they never get to feel the earth beneath their feet or even turn around.

These hens are denied essential behaviors like natural dust baths and become so profoundly depressed that many suffer from mental distress.

The conditions they endure are akin to the horrors of Auschwitz. To help end this suffering, please always choose organic, free-range hen eggs.

Caged pigs are also treated terribly!

The pork industry often confines mother pigs in cruel conditions, preventing them from even being able to turn around, supposedly to protect their young from being accidentally rolled upon.

However, these restrictive environments are nothing short of torture for these sentient animals, creating conditions akin to Auschwitz. To help stop this inhumane treatment, please choose to buy only free-range pork.

Ban live marine mammal amusement parks!

The fact is: Kind and intelligent Killer Whales are kept in tiny holding tanks which would be like humans kept in a closet, until they get to ‘perform’ for the audience.  Then back to the closet. This is mental torture. Terrible.

Ban force fed ducks!

The fact is: Ducks are force fed to make them have a fatty liver (diseased liver) which people then eat because it is supposed to be tasty. How sad, cruel and terrible. Would you allow this to be done to your bird, dog or cat?

Ross 308 Chickens!

The Ross 308 chicken is one of the most successful products in consumer history, with many tens of billions sold around the world over the last decade.

With low production costs and a bargain price for shoppers, it is marketed as the world’s most popular meat chicken.

Owned by the global breeding firm Aviagen, the Ross 308 has been bred to reach its kill weight in just 35 days, growing more than three times faster than the conventional breeds of the 1950s.

While families across the country gather this weekend, the Ross 308 will be an affordable option for the Easter Sunday roast.

Animal welfare campaigners claim the cost of such low-priced meat is being paid for by the chickens, which grow so fast their hearts and bone structures can struggle to cope.

They want retailers to stop selling the Ross 308 and the Cobb 500, the Uk’s other main fast-growing breed, citing research showing these chickens had higher mortality, lameness and muscle disease than slower-growing breeds.

This puts meat chickens – known in the industry as broilers – at the centre of one of the biggest animal welfare battles since the 2012 ban on barren battery cages for hens.

There are now 325 retailers and firms in the UK and Europe, which have signed up to the Better Chicken Commitment, to phase out the use of fast-growing breeds, which are called “Franken-chickens”.

Bullfighting in Spain and other nations is animal cruelty!

Deliberate Torment and Suffering: Opponents argue that bullfighting is not a fair contest but a deliberate and ritualistic tormenting of an animal. The bull is intentionally weakened and injured throughout the event through various means, causing significant physical pain and distress.

Unfair Fight: The bull enters the arena in a state of confusion and fear, facing multiple adversaries (the matador and his team). It is systematically weakened by picadors who pierce its neck and back muscles with lances, and banderilleros who stab it with barbed darts. This severely impairs the bull’s ability to defend itself.

Prolonged and Agonizing Death: While proponents may argue for a swift kill, critics point out that the matador often fails to deliver a clean, fatal blow. This can lead to a prolonged and agonizing death for the bull, who may suffer from multiple stab wounds and blood loss. Sometimes, a dagger is even used to sever the spinal cord if the sword doesn’t kill the bull quickly enough.

Psychological Distress: Beyond the physical pain, the bull experiences immense psychological distress. It is isolated, chased, taunted, and subjected to a terrifying and confusing ordeal in a strange environment filled with noise and hostile figures.

Ritualistic Slaughter for Entertainment: Many view bullfighting as a cruel spectacle where the suffering and death of a sentient being are the primary source of entertainment for the audience. They argue that such practices are outdated and have no place in a modern, compassionate society.

Ethical Concerns about Animal Rights: From an animal rights perspective, bullfighting violates the fundamental right of an animal to live free from unnecessary suffering and harm. Critics argue that animals should not be used and abused for human amusement.

Brutal Preparations: Reports from former bullfighters and investigations suggest that bulls may be further debilitated before entering the ring through practices like drugging, beatings, and having petroleum jelly rubbed in their eyes to impair vision. Horn shaving, although prohibited, is also sometimes practiced to disorient the bull.

Cruelty to Horses: In traditional bullfights, horses ridden by the picadors are also at risk of being gored by the bull. While they are often protected by padding, they can still suffer serious injuries.

In essence, bullfighting is animal cruelty and a barbaric practice that inflicts unnecessary pain, suffering, and death on bulls for the sake of human entertainment and tradition.

It is a cruel and outdated spectacle that should be abolished in favor of more humane forms of entertainment and cultural expression.
